Computing and applying variable-resolution data for bidirectional scattering distribution functions

چکیده
We introduce the Tensor Tree representation for bidirectional scattering distribution functions (BSDFs), a variableresolution data structure designed to minimize storage and computation. We offer a method for reducing fullresolution BSDF data into this format, and relate techniques for the efficient generation of uniformly weighted Monte Carlo samples. The Tensor Tree BSDF representation has been tested and incorporated into the 4.1 release of LBNL’s Radiance lighting simulation and rendering system, with additional methods for modeling the appearance of complex fenestration systems. Finally, an independent software library is described for third-party developers who wish to support BSDF data outside of Radiance, and recommendations are made for future development directions.

متن کاملDetailed validation of the bidirectional effect in various Case I and Case II waters.
Simulated bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDF) were compared with measurements made just beneath the water's surface. In Case I water, the set of simulations that varied the particle scattering phase function depending on chlorophyll concentration agreed more closely with the data than other models. In Case II water, however, the simulations using fixed phase functions agreed...

Background: Recently, it has been indicated that X-ray coherent scatter from biological tissues can be used to access signature of tissue. Some scientists are interested in studying this effect to get early detection of breast cancer. Since experimental methods for optimization are time consuming and expensive, some scientists suggest using simulation. Monte Carlo (MC) codes are the best...

Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...
